SIAM CSE17: Reduced Models and Multiscale Methods Symposium

Minisymposium held as part of the SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering (CSE17).

Roles:

  • Co-organizer
  • Speaker

Period:

  • August, 2016 - March, 2017

Abstract:
Accurate and efficient simulations of physical responses in large-scale heterogeneous media is crucial to search and image geological formations in a wide range of geophysical applications, including mineral and hydrocarbon exploration, water resource utilizations, and geothermal power extractions. One major challenge in practice to perform this type of simulations is the excessive computational cost it involves.

In this mini symposium, consisting of two parts, we explore ways to reduce the complexity and the cost of the simulation by introducing multiscale and upscaling methods as well as reduce space modeling.
